I know my characterization of Naoto may be off, and I'd really like to know if I'm doing something wrong. Please post crit for my portrayal of Naoto here, and I'll be sure to take it and put it into effect.

Thanks!

Fuyumine Naoto
20 June 2009 @ 02:15 pm
CHARACTER
NAME(S): Naoto Fuyumine
FANDOM: DOGS: Bullets & Carnage
BACKGROUND HISTORY:
Naoto suffers from amnesia, her first memory being that of a nightmare. She doesn’t remember what her real name is, where she’s from, or who she was.
There’s a clear image of a younger Naoto, running frantically with her parents (though she can’t remember their faces), from something--someone. All of their running would be to no avail, though, for a figure cloaked in black stood waiting for the family, slaying all three in one strike of the person’s katana, as it produced an X-shaped slash that tore both parents to pieces, and left a lasting scar on Naoto’s chest. She, too, would most likely have died from blood loss, had it not been for a man spotting her and taking her in. She can’t recall the most basic facts of that moment -who, what, where, when, and why- but this single moment would shape her future. A future of vengeance, death, and seeking answers. She was determined to one day be able to kill the person who had taken her parents and her memories from her.

Though she spent many a years with the man that had saved her, he never directly told her his name. He carried an identical weapon as the figure that had slaughtered her family, so Naoto had her suspicions as to whether he had been that person. Yet, he trained Naoto vigorously on how to use blades in battle for many years, where her agility and speed developed profusely. He also had given her a new name, “Naoto”, as it was the name of an old friend of his. This was eventually stopped, too, once another one of the man’s pupils had finally beaten the man, and proceeded to kill him. Magato was the other pupil’s name, and once Naoto learned of what had happened, she didn’t waste a minute in drawing her weapon and fighting him herself. As they fought, Magato revealed that another Naoto was responsible for the death of her parents, wielded the same katana, and lived somewhere know as the “Underground”. After wounding the other man, Naoto takes the katana of the man who’d saved her life, and sets out to find this “Underground”, and claim revenge.

Her search eventually led her to a small church, where she wished to speak to the Bishop about the Underground. Though she wasn’t able to find much information, Naoto managed to save a small winged girl named Nill from the clutches of a Mafioso that had attacked the church in hopes to take back what was thought to be rightfully his. Once the girl was safe again, the two became closer. Nill was the first person to get Naoto to reveal a secret maternal side, and seems to be the one who can make her smile more readily. Needless to say, the young woman also met both Haine Rammsteiner and Badou Nails via the church. She didn’t particularly get along with the two, but tolerated being with them in hopes of finding more out about the other Naoto. With Haine in particular, Naoto tends to either glare at him, or avoid him altogether. She blows off his fear of women, and violently refuses to accept that the two are at all similar.

With each having their own intentions, Naoto traveled with Haine and Badou to a mutant woman called Miss Liza, who dealt with a large collection of information. Immediately, she recognizes Naoto’s blade, wondering how she obtained it. As she tells her story to the older woman, she learns that the man that had saved her life went by the name of Fuyumine, and had spent quite a bit of time saving children from experimentation-- though Naoto was the only case in which he brought the child back with him, as opposed to dropping it off with someone else. At this point, Naoto accepts Fuyumine as her family name while accepting Fuyumine as a father-figure entirely.

PERSONALITY:
Personality-wise, Naoto is driven by revenge, but it's more than that. It's a fierce curiosity and a yearning for the truth. It's a need to remember her past and the person who stole the life she initially led. She has a feeling that what she forgot was important, but she can't remember why and to live without knowing your own importance-- without knowing everything about yourself... to her, that's just as bad as dying-- or worse. With a calm and stoic outlook, Naoto is not a woman of very many words. She's a good worker and she's kinder than she looks, stepping in to defend innocent people, but she can be merciless when required to-- and with her speed and fighting skills, if you mess with Naoto, you're in definite trouble. It is also seen throughout the story that she is less willing to kill than Haine; as if her consciousness gets the better of her, sometimes. And, of course, she's highly stubborn, which tends to drive the people around her just a little crazy. She's a very serious girl who could stand to lighten up some. And yet, there’s a side to Naoto that only a short few have seen, such as Nill. She treats her as a younger sister, of sorts, as the winged girl is constantly wanting to impress Naoto-- such as a younger sister would with an older one.

SPECIAL ABILITIES:
None, aside from her ability to wield a katana.

SAMPLES
THIRD PERSON:

…When did this happen? She had been running after Haine… There was something she had to see, no matter what her impulses told her-- no matter how hard her brain struggled to remember what she was even trying to remember. Something about that train held some sort of answer to her past. That was all the justification that she needed to pursue it. An answer.

The answer never came, though, as Haine began to slip from her vision. A strange light fogged her eyes, making her vision blur everything into one. A strange noise vacuumed all else from her ears; there was a matter of seconds where it was void of all sound entirely. It was as if someone had thrown her into a body of water, as her body was perfectly still. It was a melancholy serene feeling. That couldn’t be the case, her mind reckoned, as she wasn’t wet. At this realization, Naoto’s arms shot forward, grasping for anything-- anything to hold and to reassure her that she merely was.

Her arms managed to touch something, though, as the weightless feeling fleeted away. Both palms were placed against sand… the waves now filled her once void ears. An unfamiliar sun beat down upon her back while her eyes were locked straight ahead, staring at her hands. She was sitting on her knees, staring down at the powdered earth below her.

…What had just happened?

Her thoughts now gathering, Naoto released the gaze on her hands and looked at her surroundings.

…Where was she?
